About Åkrene Idrettsforening Åkrene IF is a Norwegian sports club with traditions within several kinds of sports, but football (soccer) has been the main activity the last decades and still is. The club was established just after the World War II ended, on the 24th of September 1945. Åkrene IF’s own stadium, Åkrene Arena, is situated near Fetsund, under five minutes by car from Lillestrøm and twenty minutes from Oslo. The Arena consists of one football field, one ice-hockey rink and a clubhouse (pictures from- and roadmap to the arena). In 2007 Åkrene IF consists of five teams. Four teams for men and one for women. The first squad for men played in the Norwegian 4th division (level 5) in 2007. The second team played in the 8th division while the other teams played in local series. Åkrene IF is an amateur-club and does not pay salaries to anyone in the club. All work is based on voluntary work and each player has to pay a small amount of money to play for the club. The most famous person related to Åkrene IF is the current head-coach of Lillestrøm SK, Tom Nordli. Åkrene has also produced one player to Lillestrøm SK’s first team, Trond Edvardsen. Right now Åkrene IF’s greatest asset is the club’s own website. The website has been rated as the 7th best football-websites in Norway (in 2007), and is still improving.
